Arkansas' Comeback Falls Short Against Georgia
FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas women’s basketball’s (11-10, 0-6 SEC) late comeback fell short after a 76-66 loss to Georgia (17-3, 3-3 SEC) in Bud Walton Arena on Thursday night.
The Hogs trailed by as many as 22 points all game and trailed 62-45 to start the fourth quarter but battled back with a 14-0 run to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to six with under four minutes to play in the game.
Georgia responded with a 7-0 run to push its lead back to double digits with under two minutes to play.
The Razorbacks outscored the Bulldogs in three of four quarters, but a 1-point second quarter doomed Arkansas.
First Quarter – 22-15
- Georgia controlled the tip but travelled on its first possession.
- Ashlynn Chlarson went up to score the first points of the game and put the Hogs up 2-0 early.
- The Bulldogs’ Dani Carnegie hit a three-pointer for their first points of the game.
- Wyvette Mayberry scored back-to-back, a three and a layup, to put the Hogs up 7-5.
- Taleyah Jones hit a three to put Arkansas on a 10-0 run and up 12-5. Georgia called a timeout.
- Two free throws from Harmonie Ware and another three from Jones put Arkansas up 17-8.
- Jones led the Razorbacks with six points in the first quarter.
Second Quarter – 23-41
- Georgia started the second on a 7-0 run and tied it at 22-22.
- Arkansas was held scoreless for the first 2:35 of the quarter.
- The Bulldogs outscored the Hogs 14-1 in the first five minutes of the quarter and led 29-23 at the media timeout.
- The Hogs did not make a field goal the entire second quarter and were outscored 26-1.
- Carnegie led all scorers with 18 points on 7-15 from the field and 4-12 from three in the first half.
Third Quarter – 45-62
- Georgia traveled on its first possession of the second half.
- It took Arkansas 31 seconds to outscore its total from the second quarter.
- The Bulldogs led 50-30 at the media timeout.
- Jones entered double digits on a 6-0 run for the Hogs. Georgia called a timeout up 58-42.
- Arkansas ended the quarter with six straight makes to cut the Bulldogs’ lead to 17. The Hogs outscored Georgia 22-21 in the third.
Fourth Quarter – 66-76
- Arkansas clawed back to cut it to single digits after an 11-0 run that started with Deas’ first three of the game.
- Emily Robinson scored six straight with a three and an old-fashioned three-point play.
- Chlarson extended the run to 14-0 with a steal and an and-1 to make it 69-63 Georgia with under five minutes to play.
- The Bulldogs went on a nearly four-minute scoring drought until Mia Woolfolk went up for two to end the run.
- Georgia jumped back out to a 13-point lead after a 7-0 run with under two minutes to play.
Game Notes
- Deas recorded her first double-double of SEC play and sixth of the season with a 17-point, 10-rebound and six-steal performance.
- Deas led Arkansas with 17 points and Georgia’s Carnegie led all scorers with 31 points.
- The Bulldogs outshot Arkansas 45.9% to 39.7%. The Hogs struggled from the free-throw line at just 53.3% (8-15).
