Arkansas Comes Up Short in Hard-Fought Rematch with Missouri
FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas (11-13, 0-9 SEC) scored an SEC play-high 82 points in its rematch game against Missouri (16-9, 4-6 SEC) but lost, 87-82.
The Tigers led by one, 75-74, with four minutes to play, but the Razorbacks finished one for their last nine from the field with five missed layups.
First Quarter – 22-19
- Missouri won the tip but missed its first three from leading scorer Grace Slaughter.
- Emily Robinson hit a jumper to open the scoring.
- Both teams hit threes in the first minute of action.
- Taleyah Jones hit Arkansas’ second three to push the lead to 10-5 at the 7:12 mark.
- Jones had 8 points with a pair of threes by the 5:00 mark.
- The Hogs led 15-12 at the media timeout.
- The Tigers went on a 7-0 run near the end of the first quarter to take their first lead since the beginning of the game.
- The Hogs responded with a three from Harmonie Ware and a jumper from Maria Anais Rodriguez to lead 22-19 after the first 10 minutes.
Second Quarter – 38-41
- Missouri outscored the Hogs 7-2 to open the quarter
- The Razorbacks battled back to tie it 30-30 at the media timeout.
- Arkansas started the quarter 0-6 from three
- Mayberry hit back-to-back threes and the Hogs led 36-33 with 3:14 left in the half. She also tied her season high with 13 points.
- The Razorbacks closed the half on a nearly three-minute scoring drought before Deas ended it with a jumper in the paint.
- Arkansas had zero free-throw attempts in the first half. Missouri was 5-6 from the line.
- The Tigers outscored the Razorbacks 22-16 in the quarter.
- Mayberry and Mizzou’s Slaughter led all scorers with 13 points.
Third Quarter – 64-66
- Arkansas started the half with the ball and Robinson hit a corner three to tie the game at 41-41.
- Missouri responded with three straight threes to open up a seven-point lead at 50-43 with 7:45 to play in the quarter
- Jones ended the Tigers’ run with a three-pointer and a jumper in the lane to make it 52-48 Missouri with 5:45 to play in the quarter.
- The Tigers led 58-51 at the media timeout.
- Mayberry hit Arkansas’ 10th three-pointer of the game at 3:05 to make it 61-56 Mizzou.
- Deas made and attempted the Hogs’ first free throws of the game at the :42 mark of the third.
- Ware closed the quarter with a tough layup and Arkansas cut the lead to two points.
Fourth Quarter – 82-87
- Schreacke opened the quarter with Missouri’s 12th three-pointer of the game. Robinson responded with Arkansas’ 11th.
- Deas grabbed her 10th rebound of the game at the 7:44 mark.
- The Hogs went on a nearly three-minute drought from the field but only trailed by three with 6:06 to play.
- Jones ended the drought with her fourth three of the game to make it 73-71 with 5:18 to play.
- Mayberry cut it to one with her fifth three of the game, tied for the most by a Razorback this season.
- Arkansas struggled to get a stop in the paint as the Tigers went the final 9:38 without a three and only had three attempts in the fourth quarter.
- Missouri led 82-77 with one minute to play.
- The Hogs fouled three times to get Mizzou to the line and the Tigers led 84-79 with 37.2 seconds left in the game.
- Jones hit her fifth three with 21 seconds left to make it 85-82, Missouri.
- Arkansas missed open looks to close the game, including five layups.
Game Notes
- Mayberry finished with a season-high 19 points on 7-13 shooting
- Robinson tallied five assists, her fourth straight game with at least five assists. The junior finished with 17 points with three of Arkansas’ 14 three-pointers.
- The Hogs made an SEC-play high 14 threes on 43 attempts (32.6%)
- Arkansas’ 83 points were the most in SEC play and the first game with 80+ points since Dec. 20 against Stephen F. Austin.
- Jones led the Razorbacks with 24 points, her 13th game as Arkansas’ scoring leader. Jones has collected 18 games in double-figures and nine with at least 20 points.
- Both teams had three players finish with 15+ points.
- Deas finished with six points, an SEC-high 13 rebounds and tied her career-high with seven assists.
- Arkansas attempted a season-low eight free throws compared to Mizzou’s 18.
