Arkansas Continues Fall Season at Home
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team continues its fall season this week with nine Razorbacks competing in the PTT 25K Fayetteville. The tournament will take place from September 18-24 at the Billingsley Tennis Center.
The 20 player main draw will consist of 4 groups of 5 players each. The round-robin group stages will run from Monday to Friday. The playoff rounds will be single elimination and consist of five draws of 4 players depending on the player’s group finishing (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th) and will run from Saturday to Sunday. The nine players competing for Arkansas are split across all four groups.
Transfer Božo Barun headlines Group A for the Hogs as he makes his first appearance this fall. Barun joins the team after one season with Wake Forest in which he went 8-4 in singles play while primarily competing at court four with the Demon Deacons. He is set to play Alexander Okonkwo on Monday in Round 1 of the group stage.
Group B features two Razorbacks as Gerard Planelles Ripoll also makes his first appearance of the fall along with Jared Horwood, who is playing in his second fall event. Planelles Ripoll returns for his sophomore season after a 15-9 record in singles play last spring, including 13 wins combined in the No. 5 and 6 positions. Horwood is seeking his first win this fall and faces Timothy Carlsson Seger in the first round of the group stage.
Stefanos Savva, Benedikt Emesz, and Foster Rogers will compete in Group C as Savva and Emesz face off in Round 1 on Monday. Rogers makes his first appearance for Arkansas this fall and matches up against Pierce Rollins in the first round. Rogers went 4-1 in the sixth spot for Arkansas last spring and closed the season with a four-match winning streak. Savva and Emesz both look to improve upon their performances from the opening weekend of the fall season as the duo combined for three singles wins between the two tournaments.
Group D is headlined by three Hogs each playing in their second event with Melvin Manuel, Alan Sau Franco, and Connor Smillie slated to compete alongside each other. Manuel received a bye in the first round and will face Smillie Round 2 on Tuesday. Sau Franco matches up against David Stevenson while Smillie is set to play Callum Gale on Monday.
