Arkansas Continues Homestand Against New Mexico, South Alabama
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team continues their homestand with another pair of matches at Billingsley Tennis Center this weekend. The Razorbacks (2-1) face the New Mexico Lobos (1-1) on Friday, January 26 at 5 p.m. CT and the South Alabama Jaguars (2-0) on Sunday, January 28 at 12 p.m. CT.
Last weekend, the Hogs split their two matches against Illinois State and MTSU. In the first match, Arkansas swept the Redbirds to claim their second consecutive 7-0 victory this season. Melvin Manuel grabbed the only point for the Razorbacks against MTSU, defeating No. 105 Ondrej Horak in straight sets for his first ranked win this year.
New Mexico is coming off a 1-1 weekend at The Jack Kennedy Classic, falling 4-3 to Cal Poly and sweeping East Tennessee State. The Lobos are led by juniors No. 122 Arda Azkara, Aram Noroozian, and Georgio Sahama, who all have two singles wins this spring. Azkara and senior Alex Maggs have a 1-1 record in doubles at the No. 1 position while Sahama and freshman Nicolas Recoura are 2-0 on court two.
The Jaguars started out their season 2-0 with wins over Samford and Southern. South Alabama will play New Mexico in Fayetteville on Saturday before its match against the Razorbacks the following day. Senior Jack Clements and sophomore Braden Hannig lead the Jaguars with one singles victory each in the top spot. Clements also leads the team in doubles wins, posting a 2-0 record at the No. 1 position this spring.
