Arkansas Continues Spring Slate at LSU
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team (10-4) is looking to extend its winning streak this week heading to Baton Rouge, La. for a two-match series at LSU (3-7) beginning on Thursday (Feb. 18) at 4 p.m.
Arkansas is coming off its fifth series sweep over the course of the 2020-21 season, after it defeated Alabama at home in back-to-back nights, 3-0 and 3-1 respectively. Gillen and Wheeler shined for the Hogs, contributing 46 kills (51% of team total) and a combined 13 service aces and 29 digs. The duo went 46-11-121 (.289 hitting %) on the weekend as well.
As a team, the Razorbacks are in great shape headed into the weekend. Currently ranked third in the SEC and receiving votes in the national polls, Arkansas’ offense is among the top four teams in the conference in kills, services aces, digs and assists.
Arkansas leads the all-time series with LSU, 28-22 but has dropped the last four meetings and seven of the last ten. The Hogs will be looking to bounce back from a straight-set loss to the Tigers the last time they were in Baton Rouge in 2019.
LSU finished the fall 3-3, being swept by Texas A&M, taking two against Mississippi State and splitting its series with Alabama. In the fall LSU had the most digs per set (16.57) in the conference, while the Tigers limited opponents to hitting .204. LSU returns this week still in the hunt for its first wins of the spring after dropping both matches at Florida last week.
The SEC’s two top servers will go head-to-head this week with LSU’s Taylor Bannister and Arkansas’ Jillian Gillen tied for the SEC lead with 0.53 Aces Per Set.
Thursday night’s match inside the PMAC will be available to fans on SEC Network+ starting at 4 p.m. Friday’s match is slated for a noon start time and will air live on the SEC Network.
