Arkansas Falls in Four to A&M on Sunday

Despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the match, the Razorbacks ran out of gas quickly on Sunday afternoon as Texas A&M won the next three sets to hand the Hogs their second SEC loss of the season.

Both Aniya Madkin (12) and Romani Thurman (10) registered double-digit kills in the match, but Arkansas tallied just 37 to A&M’s 59.

The Razorbacks matched the Aggies in total blocks on the day with eight, with Thurman and Zoi Evans both tallying five apiece.

Hannah Hogue did her part to chip in on both sides of the ball and got her 13th double-double of the season with 28 assists and 11 digs.

Set 1

The two teams steadily traded points early on and prevented the other from any long runs, but the Hogs found ways to hang on just a bit longer to get ahead. An ace from Kylie Weeks made it 10-8, and one from Avery Calame shortly after made it 15-12 and sent the Aggies to a timeout. It didn’t do much as they tacked on just two more while Arkansas reached 20 first off a block from Sania Petties and Madkin. The Aggies stayed on the Hogs’ heels from there and came within two at 24-22, but a Thurman kill closed the door on the set 25-22 for Arkansas.

Set 2

The Aggies swung the momentum their way early in the second set, but the Hogs kept chipping away and cut the deficit to 10-8 with a pair of kills from Madkin. A Thurman kill tied it at 12-12, but the Aggies got six of the next eight for an 18-14 advantage that sent Arkansas to a timeout. The Hogs got a spark late and tied it at 23-23, but the Aggies spoiled the comeback with the last two points for a 25-23 set two victory that knotted the match 1-1.

Set 3

A&M had all the momentum early in the third set with a big 8-1 run that sent Arkansas to huddle. The Hogs just couldn’t get anything going and quickly found themselves down 11 at 15-4, prompting another timeout. Arkansas never recovered from there and scored just two more points as the Aggies rolled to a 25-6 set victory and went up 2-1 in the match.

Set 4

The fourth set started much more balanced, but the Aggies took a 9-8 lead that they continued to grow from there. Arkansas failed to generate any lasting runs and found itself in a 21-14 hole that sent the Hogs to a timeout. The deficit proved insurmountable as Arkansas added just two more points and fell 25-16 in the final set.
