Arkansas Falls to Washington in Overtime in the Round of 32

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Arkansas women’s soccer (10-5-4) was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Washington, 1-0, on Thursday afternoon at Klöckner Stadium in Charlottesville, Va.

The Huskies’ leading scorer, Alex Buck, netted the golden goal in the 99th minute after the game ended scoreless in regulation.

How it Happened

Arkansas applied early pressure, with five shots and two corner kicks in the first five minutes. Junior forward Bella Field almost put the Hogs ahead in the first minute, but missed her shot inside the six-yard box and the Huskies cleared to give the Razorbacks their first corner kick of the game

The Hogs fired off seven shots through the opening 10 minutes and controlled possession before Washington got on the board with its first shot in the 16th minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Keegan Smith, in her second match back from injury, made one save in the first 45 minutes, a late chance by forward Alex Buck.

Arkansas was ahead in shots, 8-5, and corners, 3-0, in the first half.

The Razorbacks’ best chance in the second half came in the 58th minute, when a good ball from Field was flicked just wide of the goal by junior midfielder Kennedy Ball.

Washington controlled much of the second half and overtime and outshot the Hogs, 12-3, in the final 54 minutes.

The Huskies will face the winner of 8-seed Penn State and 1-seed Virginia on Sunday, Nov. 23.
