
Arkansas finishes second in SEC Indoor Championships
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Arkansas’ quest for another SEC Indoor team title fell short by five and half points as the Razorbacks totaled 102 points to finish behind Texas A&M’s tally of 107.5.
Challenging throughout the final day of the three-day meet hosted by Texas A&M, Arkansas claimed a pair of victories with Reuben Reina in the mile and Jordan Anthony in the 60m.
Reina later challenged for the win in the 3,000m as Arkansas totaled 19 points off a 2-3-4 finish. Reina posted a time of 7:53.74 with Yaseen Abdalla (7:55.44) and Patrick Kiprop (7:55.46) following.
Along with a pair of points from the distance medley relay on Thursday, Reina totaled 20 points in the meet and shared the Cliff Harper trophy for the men’s high scorer with Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan of Ole Miss, who won the shot put and weight throw.
Anthony equaled his career best of 6.54 to capture the 60m title. He broke the UA record of 6.56 set by Kenzo Cotton in 2016. Cotton was the last Razorback to win the SEC 60m title.
A very close finish in the sprint final had a pair of Auburn sprinters placing second and third with Israel Okon (6.55) and Azeem Fahmi (6.56). A third Auburn sprinter false-started.
Reina won the mile in 4:03.03 while teammate Ben Shearer finished third in 4:03.26 as they accounted for 16 team points. Texas A&M’s Cooper Cawthra placed second in 4:03.23.
Arkansas had a silver medal finish in the 4 x 400m relay, clocking 3:04.28 to place behinda. 3:03.09 for Texas A&M. The Razorback’s time ranks No. 10 on the UA all-time list.
The Arkansas foursome included Steven McElroy (46.56), Brandon Battle (46.35), Jaden Smith (45.11), and TJ Tomlyanovich (46.26).
Rivaldo Marshall collected a bronze medal in the 800m with a time of 1:48.31. Sam Whitmarsh of Texas A&M won in 1:47.69.
Eight additional points were supplied in the triple jump as Apalos Edwards finished fourth at 54-6 (16.61) with Henry Kiner placing sixth with a 51-10.5 (15.81).
In the 60m hurdles, Razorbacks place seventh and eighth with TJ Caldwell and Vashaun Viscianna.
