Arkansas Handles Drake, 79-72, in Music City Classic Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Arkansas women’s basketball (6-1) led Drake (1-4) wire-to-wire to pick up its first win away from Bud Walton Arena of the 2025-26 season.

The Hogs defeated the Bulldogs, 79-77, and led by as many as 18 points. Senior guard Taleyah Jones led the Razorbacks with 15 points.

First Quarter – 20-12

  • Arkansas controlled the tip but came up empty on its first possession.
  • Freshman Bonnie Deas scored the first point of the game, a free throw. Taleyah Jones grabbed the rebound on the missed free throw and Ashlynn Chlarson made a layup to put the Hogs up 3-0.
  • The Razorbacks forced a shot clock violation up 7-0 and Drake called a timeout.
  • Emily Robinson forced two turnovers and the Hogs scored 11 of their 20 points off turnovers.
  • Arkansas went on a nearly 3-minute drought from the field but continued to score from the free-throw line, going 8-10 in the first quarter.
  • Drake made a pair of threes on eight attempts.

Second Quarter – 43-26

  • Jenna Lawrence made a jumper to open the second and followed it up with Arkansas’ first three of the game to put the Hogs up 25-14.
  • Wyvette Mayberry connected from three at the 6-minute mark to put the Razorbacks up 31-18
  • Arkansas went on another 3-minute field goal drought, ended by Lawrence’s three at the 2:02 mark.
  • With 1:25 to go, Deas grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds and completed a no-look pass to Mayberry for her second three of the game.
  • Lawrence went 5-7 from the field and led Arkansas with 12 points.
  • The Hogs scored 13 points off 12 turnovers and out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 23-17, in the first half.

Third Quarter – 61-46

  • Drake opened the first half with back-to-back layups but went missed its next four attempts.
  • Jones completed the old-fashioned three-point play to put the Hogs back up by 16 points.
  • Maria Anais Rodriguez scored back-to-back jumpers to end the Bulldogs’ 6-0 run.
  • Jones scored back-to-back to give Arkansas an 18-point lead, its largest of the game. Jones scored 10 of her 15 points in the third.
  • Deas added three more rebounds.
  • The Hogs led by 15 points at the end of the third despite being outscored 20-18

Fourth Quarter – 79-72

  • Arkansas scored on its first two possessions on the fourth via Rodriguez and Lawrence.
  • Drake cut the Hogs’ lead to 10 points with a 7-0 run with under 8 minutes to play.
  • The Razorbacks responded with their own 7-0 run.
  • The Bulldogs ended the game on a 9-0 run and hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the deficit to single digits.

Game Notes

  • Arkansas led by double digits for 29:23.
  • The Hogs forced 22 turnovers, the most by a Razorback opponent since the 2022-23 season.
  • Deas nearly picked up her fourth double-double and finished one point shy with 9 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Five Hogs finished in double figures: Jones (15), Lawrence (14), Mayberry (12), Rodriguez (10) and Deas (13 rebounds).
  • The Razorbacks played with their smallest rotation of the season, with eight players seeing the court.
  • The Hogs improved to 3-1 against Drake all-time.
  • The Bulldogs were led by Quinn Vice, with 21 points, and shot 49.1% (28-57) from the field.
  • Arkansas shot 44.6% (29-65) from the field and made 16 free throws out of 22 attempts.

Arkansas will face Southern Illinois (1-3) in the final game of the Music City Classic on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. CT. The Salukis lost to Winthrop, 75-61, on Tuesday.
