Arkansas Hosts Boston College for SEC/ACC Challenge

FAYETTEVILLE – The Razorback women’s basketball team (4-5) will host Boston College (6-3) for the second edition of the SEC/ACC Women’s Challenge. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. inside Bud Walton Arena with Kevin Fitzgerald (play-by-play) and Brooke Weisbrod (analyst) on the SEC Network call.

Arkansas claimed one of the SEC’s seven victories in the inaugural event after defeating No. 15 Florida State, 71-58, in Tallahassee. Carly Keats, the lone returner who played in the game, had three points. Both conferences tied with seven wins each in the 2023 edition.

Game Notes

  • Arkansas will face Boston College for the first time since 2001 (@ BC). The Hogs lead the all-time series 3-0.
  • Almost a decade separated the first two meetings. In the first meeting, Arkansas defeated the Eagles by 31 points to capture the 1990 Arkansas Dial Classic title. The Hogs were ranked No. 8 and BC was ranked No. 24.
  • Director of Operations Amber Shirey has been part of all four meetings with the Eagles as a player in 1990, assistant coach in 1999 and 2001 and as director of operations in 2024. Shirey is in her 37th year overall with the program.
  • Izzy Higginbottom has cemented herself as one of the best scorers in the NCAA through the first nine games and ranks No. 8 in the country and first in the SEC in points per game (22.6) ahead of LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson (22.3). She has been the leading scorer in seven games (Fairfield, Little Rock, UTA, UCLA, ORU, OSU, BGSU) this season.
  • She also leads the team and ranks second in the SEC in FT%, going 68-76 (.895) from the charity stripe. Higginbottom leads the SEC and ranks second in the NCAA in FTA (76) and FTM (68). She’s been perfect from the line in four games (ETA&M, LR, UCLA, BGSU) this season.
  • Sophomore guard Kiki Smith has established herself as a key scoring threat for Arkansas.  The Topeka, Kan. native has 10+ points in 7 of 9 games and has started every game this season.
  • Smith paced Arkansas with 22 points in its first win of the season against East Texas A&M. Went 8-9 from FG, lone miss was in 4Q. From beyond the arc, Kiki ranks third in the SEC and 10th in the NCAA with 26 3s.
