Arkansas hosts loaded field in Razorback Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas returns to action this weekend hosting the Razorback Invitational, which features six schools ranked among the top 25 nationally with programs who have produced six world-leading marks in 2026 with an additional pair of collegiate leaders.

The 14-team men’s field includes No. 2 Georgia, No. 4 Texas Tech, No. 9 Illinois, No. 10 South Carolina, No. 13 Oregon, and No. 22 Michigan. Additional schools include Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma State, and Texas.

The two-day meet at Randal Tyson Track Center includes the heptathlon and distance medley relay on Friday, with action starting at 11:45 a.m. while Saturday’s events begin at 9:55 a.m. The Razorback Invitational will stream live on SEC Network + both days (5:30 pm on Friday, 11 a.m. on Saturday) and live results are available at flashresults.com.

“It’s going to be a great meet when you look at the competition here this weekend,” noted Arkansas men’s head coach Doug Case. “From Oregon to Texas, along with Florida, Miami, Florida State, Illinois, and LSU. It’s a great list of teams that are coming in and we’re expecting it to be one of the best meets in the country this weekend here.

“We kind of start the season slow and try to really hit it at SECs and NCAAs. We did some off events in our first meet, now with the competition really good we’re going to do our primary events with almost everyone this week.”

One of the six current world leaders competing at Tyson this weekend includes professional hurdler Trey Cunningham, who ran 7.48 in the 60m hurdles at Boston last weekend. Cunningham holds the Razorback Invitational meet record of 7.60 from 2023.

Additional pro athletes racing in the Razorback Invitational include Canadian Christopher Morales-Williams (400m) and American Matt Boling (200m). Morales-Williams ran an all-time 400m world best of 44.49 at the Tyson Track Center during the 2024 SEC Championships.

“That’s the beauty of a big meet like this,” said Case. “We can draw in some Olympians among great competition. It always helps to compete against the best week-in and week-out. We’re a program that aspires to be at the top level year after year. It’s nice to have some pros compete here and they add to the meet.”

A pair of season debuts for the Razorbacks this weekend will include sophomore high jumper Scottie Vines along with sophomore sprinter Jelani Watkins, a recent transfer to Arkansas.

Vines cleared a then best of 7-3 (2.21) to win the Razorback Invitational a year ago. Watkins in entered in the 60m and 200m where he has indoor best times of 6.61 and 20.78.

“We’re going to open Scottie Vines in the high jump,” said Case. “I think he looks great in practice and it’s a matter of getting into competition and this will be his first one of the year.

“I’ve entered Jelani in both sprints with the 200m final on Friday and three rounds of the 60m on Saturday. He came in here in better shape than I actually thought he would be in. He looks good and has done all the workouts fine. We’ll play it by ear through Saturday. He’ll run the 200m on Friday and then see how he feels in the 60m.”

With the caliber of teams and the quality of individuals and relay personnel, each event will produce outstanding performances.

“The 4 x 400m relays will be really good,” noted Case. “The 3,000m and miles are very deep. The 800m and 400m are great. Every single event has top quality people in it and there’s going to be some really good performances this weekend.”

Arkansas will have six Razorbacks in the 3,000m races led by Ernest Cheruiyot, James Sankei, and Nick Busienei. Racing in the mile are Brian Masai and Dawson Welch.

Rivaldo Marshall and Tyrice Taylor team up in the 800m along with Julian Carter and Owan Logorodi. In the 400m Razorbacks include Jordan Pierre, Devyn Wright, Zyaire Nuriddin and Zander Cruzan.

Arkansas hurdlers will include Vashaun Vascianna, Abdoul Sy-Savane, Karamoko Sacko, Jerome Campbell, and TJ Caldwell.

Razorback Cooper Williams competes in a heptathlon field that includes defending NCAA Indoor champion Peyton Bair, who is now with Oregon, along with NCAA Indoor bronze medalist Edgar Campre of Miami.
