Arkansas Improves to 13-0 With 6-2 Victory Over Loyola Marymount

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks improved to 13-0 with a 6-2 win over Loyola Marymount on Friday night at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

Freshman Cam Harrison continued the string of impressive starts in the circle for Arkansas on her way to her second victory of the season. Harrison pitched five shutout innings while fanning two batters and allowing just two hits and no walks.

Courtney Day hit her sixth home run of the season with a towering two-run shot in the fifth inning, while Kennedy Miller provided insurance in the seventh with a homer. Reagan Johnson led Arkansas with two hits, an RBI, a double, a walk and two runs scored in the win. Karlie Davison also had a multi-hit game with a 2-3 night at the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Reagan Johnson led off the game with a walk and would later come around to score on a wild pitch to give Arkansas an early 1-0 advantage.

Harrison retired her first nine batters in the game while striking out two.

With one out in the top of the third, Ella McDowell singled through the right side and Bri Ellis singled through the left side to put two runners on for Courtney Day who smashed a drive to center field but Loyola Marymount center fielder Justine Lambert made a leaping catch to reach over the center field wall and deny Day of a three-run homer.

Karlie Davison singled with two outs in the top of the fourth inning before advancing into scoring position on a wild pitch. Davison would then score on a Johnson double down the left-field line to bring the score to 2-0 in favor of the Razorbacks. Kailey Wyckoff was hit by a pitch the following at-bat to extend her reached-base streak to 16 games dating back to her time at Texas Tech.

Lambert legged out an infield single to the shortstop for the Lions’ first hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth. That is all they would get, however, as Harrison issued consecutive groundouts and a popout to end the inning.

In the fifth inning Day hit a no-doubt two-run home run that landed well beyond the bleachers in left field, increasing the Hogs lead to 4-0. Ellis scored on the towering blast after walking in the prior at-bat.

The bottom of the fifth inning was highlighted by a heads-up play by Wyckoff at catcher. With one out and a runner on first, LMU’s Kealani Caster hit a high popup in foul territory behind the plate that Wyckoff caught before throwing out the runner attempting to tag for second base to end the inning to complete the double play.

Johnson singled down the left field line in the sixth and would come around to score on a wild pitch for the second time in the contest.

Reis Beuerlein relieved Harrison in the sixth inning. Beuerlein would retire the Lions in order by way of a popout and consecutive strikeouts.

Miller made it 6-0 with a solo home run to center field in the top of the seventh. Loyola Marymount fought back in the bottom of the seventh with two runs on three hits to make it the final, 6-2.

Lindsay O’Dell took the loss for LMU to fall to 1-5 on the season after going the distance and allowing six runs on six walks and eight hits while striking out three.
