Arkansas improves to No. 1 following world-leading performances
NEW ORLEANS – A successful weekend during the Razorback Invitational has moved the Razorbacks into the No. 1 position among the USTFCCCA women’s national rating index. Arkansas ranked No. 2 in the first set of ratings released a week ago.
World-leading times for Amber Anning in the 400m and for the Razorback 4 x 400m relay highlighted the weekend. In addition, Arkansas displayed quality depth in various events while adding the second fastest distance medley relay in school history.
The rating index computed 191 points for the Razorbacks in the No. 1 position. They are followed by Florida (139), Oregon (132), USC (107), and Illinois (104).
Teams rounding out the top 10 this week include Texas A&M (98), BYU (95), Washington (89), Georgia (77), and Oklahoma State (77).
A total of 10 SEC schools are among the top 25 this week, including No. 11 Ole Miss (77), No. 12 LSU (76), No. 14 Alabama (66), No. 15 South Carolina (63), No. 16 Kentucky (58), and No. 17 Tennessee (56).
Anning produced the No. 10 collegiate mark all-time with a 50.56 in the 400m and supplied a 51.05 second leg on the 4 x 400m relay that produced the No. 10 world performance ever with a 3:25.59 performance. Anning also broke the British 200m record with a 22.60 effort on the first day of the meet.
Razorback teammates in the 400m have four of the top eight times with Nickisha Pryce and Rosey Effiong both registering a 51.58 to equal third this season while freshman Shawnti Jackson is eighth best at 52.10. Jackson is also third in the nation in the 60m and 200m with times of 7.18 and 22.77.
Arkansas will compete next in the Tyson Invitational on February 9-10 in the Randal Tyson Track Center.
