Arkansas Opens SEC Tournament Against Georgia

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 9th-seeded Arkansas men’s tennis team begins postseason play on Thursday, as the Razorbacks face the 8th-seeded and 18th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in the second round of the 2018 SEC Men’s Tennis Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Razorbacks (13-13, 4-8 SEC) enter the tournament winning four of their last six matches, including a 4-3 victory over Ole Miss in Arkansas’ last outing on Senior Day.

In the regular season match-up between the Razorbacks and Bulldogs, Arkansas upset then 14th-ranked Georgia 4-3 in Fayetteville. It was Arkansas’ first win over the Bulldogs in 14 years.

Last season, Arkansas won its third-ever match in the conference tournament and first since 2006, defeating the 10th-seeded LSU Tigers 4-2, before falling to the 2nd-seeded Georgia Bulldogs 4-1. Arkansas is 0-2 all-time against Georgia in the SEC Tournament.

Arkansas is led by its lone senior Jose Salazar who is a team-best 17-6 this spring, including an 8-4 record against ranked competition. The Tenerife, Spain, native has won eight of his last nine matches, including six of the last seven against ranked opponents.

The winner will advance to face the top-seeded and fifth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Friday at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
