Arkansas Pulls Away in Second Half, Corrals Toros del Valle, 91-49

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Arkansas, leading by eight at halftime, opened the second half with a 27-6 run – including a 19-0 spurt – to put away Toros del Valle, 91-49, Monday night in the Razorbacks’ third game in the Baha Mar Summer League.

Toros de Valle is a professional team from Cali, Colombia. They play in the Liga WPlay de Baloncesto, the premier professional basketball league in Colombia, and won the 2026 championship.

The only points for the Toros in the 21-2 Razorback run were two free throws by Keinner Asprilla at the 19:19 mark. From that point, Arkansas ran off a 19-0 run to lead 60-31. The Razorbacks would push the run to 27-6 and lead 64-35 with 11:27 left.

JJ Andrews led Arkansas by recording a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Andrews had nine points and six rebounds in the second half, but it was freshman Davion Thompson that paced the Hogs in the period with 10 points, making a pair of 3-pointers. Thompson finished with 12 points.

Jordan Smith Jr., who joined Billy Richmond III in scoring 13 points, set the stage early in the second half with a drive and thunderous dunk.

The Razorbacks were a little sloppy in the first half, having nine turnovers. The team turned up the intensity in the second half and finished with nine turnovers for the game. Also, the Toros shot 35.5% from the field in the first half but were held to 24% shooting in the second half.

Leonardo Salazar was the only player for the Toros to score in double figures with 17 points. However, he scored all 17 in the first half (5-of-10 from 3-point range), but was able to only get off two shots in the second half (0-of-2 from 3-point range).

Arkansas will wrap up its time in the Baha Mar Summer League by facing Calgary University on Tuesday (Aug. 4). Tipoff is set for Noon (ET) / 11 am (CT) and the game will be streamed on FloSports.

FIRST HALF: ARK: 37 – TOROS: 29

  • Arkansas scored first and never trailed.
  • The Razorbacks held the Toros to 1-of-8 shooting over a stretch midway through the first half to take an 11-point lead.
  • The Toros got hot from deep to get back in the game and were 7-of-23 from 3-point range for the period.
  • Arkansas was able to keep its advantage by going 9-of-14 from the line while the Toros had zero free throw attempts.
  • Arkansas used a 6-0 run late to go up 15 (30-15), its largest lead of the half.
  • Leonardo Salazar made a three of 3-pointers to cut the Toros’ deficit to 7 (33-26) with 1:19 left. Arkansas regained a double-digit lead with 28 seconds left only to see Salazar make a fourth triple to provide the 37-29 halftime score.
  • Salazar led all scorers with 17 points. Billy Richmond III led Arkansas with nine points.
  • The Toros had 10 assists on 11 made baskets.
  • Arkansas only had six assists with nine turnovers.
  • Arkansas out-rebounded the Toros 23-13 with JJ Andrews leading the way with seven.

SECOND HALF: ARK: 54 – TOROS: 20

  • Arkansas’ run went from 14-2 early to 21-2 and finally 27-6 to lead 64-35 with 11:27 left (second media timeout).
  • After leading the Toros with 17 first-half points, Leonardo Salazar only took two shots in the second half, missing both. Two players from the Toros each scored six points to lead their team in the period.
  • Arkansas out-rebounded the Toros, 26-19, in the second half and 50-32 for the game.
