Arkansas Races Out Early, Takes Down Bahamas Select Team, 106-59

NASSAU, The Bahamas – Arkansas used its length and athleticism, getting 19 steals and 13 blocked shots, to cruise past players from The Bahamas national teams, 106-59, Friday night in the Razorbacks’ opening game at the Baha Mar Summer League.

Jordan Smith Jr. finished with 22 points and six assists, and Abdou Toure recorded a double-double in his first time in a Razorback uniform with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while adding four blocked shots. Davion Thompson hit three of the Hogs’ six triples and finished with 17 points. Billy Richmond III added 16 points and six assists while JJ Andrews had 16 points and three steals.

Maper Maker played a key role in the Razorbacks’ defensive success, leading the team with five steals and five blocked shots.

Arkansas raced out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back, leading 50-19 at halftime.

The Bahamas squad missed its first 12 3-point attempts before making back-to-back triples with 13:23 left in the second half. Those 3s helped The Bahamas stay close in the second half as Arkansas won the second 20 minutes, 56-40.

Javez Coleby led The Bahamas with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Arkansas returns to action on Saturday (Aug. 1) versus Carleton University from Canada. Tipoff is set for 6 pm (ET)/5 pm( CT), and the game will be streamed on Flo Sports (subscription required).

FIRST HALF: ARK: 50 – BAH: 19

Arkansas started the game on a 10-0 run. The Bahamas’ first point came on a free throw at 16:26. The Bahamas’ first field goal did not come until 14:15 as the Razorbacks led 12-3.
Arkansas used a 14-2 run to take a 34-10 lead with 7:07 left.
Arkansas shot 53.7% from the field while holding The Bahamas to just 24.2% shooting from the field, including 0-for-10 from 3-point range. Arkansas blocked six shots thanks to three by Abdou Toure.
Arkansas threw down eight dunks and The Bahamas had just 8 made field goals.
The Razorbacks dished out 13 assists and had 11 steals, including three by Maper Maker.
Toure led the Hogs with 10 points. Richmond and Thompson each added eight.
Ilia Frolov led Arkansas with four rebounds in just 4:50 played.
The Bahamas committed 13 turnovers but only trailed by one, 23-22, in the rebound department.
Zane Knowles led The Bahamas with 8 points.

SECOND HALF: ARK: 56 – BAH: 40

The Bahamas shot 48.5% from the field in the second half, compared to Arkansas slipping to 45.2%.
Smith scored 15 of his 22 in the second half and Toure had seven of his 10 rebounds in the period.
For The Bahamas, Coleby had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the half.
