Arkansas Swept by Mizzou on Friday

In their first SEC road contest of the season, the Hogs couldn’t get much going and were quickly swept by the Missouri Tigers (11-25, 20-25, 17-25).

Lakin Laurendine led the Razorbacks with 13 kills on the night and hit .286. Libero Kylie Weeks had a team-high 11 digs. Sophomore setter Kiki Remensperger continued to deliver on both sides of the ball with 28 assists and nine digs, just shy of the double-double.

Friday was just the second match of the season where Arkansas was defeated in straight sets. The Hogs are now 5-9, 1-2 in SEC play.

Set 1

Arkansas got the first point of the opening set, but nothing went the Hogs’ way after that. The Tigers quickly went up 8-1, which sent Arkansas as a timeout. The Hogs couldn’t get more than a point at a time while Mizzou continued to pour on offense and the Tigers lead grew to 21-6 in a hurry. Arkansas huddled again and while the Razorbacks found some more offense toward the end, it was no match to the Tigers’ hot start and Mizzou claimed the set 25-11.

Set 2

The Hogs showed some fight in the middle set and used a 3-0 run that featured a block and a kill from freshman Journey Peppers to get an early advantage. The Tigers were right on their heels and tied it three times after that, but Arkansas held a 9-7 lead off kills from Parker Duncan and Romani Thurman. Mizzou kept chasing and with back-to-back points, the Tigers took a 15-14 lead at the media break. After that, Arkansas was the team looking to catch up as Mizzou went on a 4-2 tear that grew its lead and sent the Hogs to huddle. Kills from Laurendine brought Arkansas within one at 19-17 and 20-18, but Mizzou maintained the momentum through the end of the set and claimed it 25-20.

Set 3

In a must-win set, Arkansas capitalized off early Mizzou errors for a 5-1 edge. The Tigers then answered with an 8-1 run and went up 9-6. They limited the Hogs’ chances and while Arkansas managed to stay within three with a kill from Laurendine, the Tigers answered back with two points and went up 15-10 at the media timeout. Arkansas couldn’t find the run it needed and while a service error spoiled match point, Mizzou closed it out with a final kill for the 25-17 set victory and match sweep.
