
Arkansas Takes Third at Hurricane Invitational
TULSA, Okla. — The No. 9 Arkansas women’s cross country team opened its 2018 season with an early-season effort, finishing third overall at the Hurricane Invitational in Tulsa on Saturday morning at Mowhawk Sports Complex.
Arkansas’ top-five finished among the top-20 best in the field, led by junior Micah Huckabee. Huckabee, aCabot, Ark. native, finished fifth-overall in the two-mile race, completing the course in 11:26.
“It’s nice to get the season going knowing we have 10 very fit athletes at home training,” said head coach Lance Harter. “We were still able to be competitive, which is a nice sign of what our future could hold for us.”
Alex Ritchey finished ninth overall as the No. 2 for Arkansas running 11:33. Finishing right behind Ritchey was Greta Taylor (11:48) in 12th-place. Payton Brown was the fourth member of Harter’s squad to cross the finish line. Brown posted a 13th-place finish with a time of 11:53.
Senior Kailee Sawyer (12:02) rounded out scoring for the Razorbacks while Emily Jeacock (12:37), and Tess Iler (12:58) completed the Arkansas lineup at the Hurricane Invitational finishing 23rd and 25th, respectively.
Next up for Arkansas will be the Missouri Southern Stampede on Sat, Sept. 15 in Joplin, Mo.
