Arkansas To Face Clemson In 2nd Round

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas soccer team is on its way to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in school history after a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory against Memphis on Friday night at Razorback Field.

Junior Jessi Hartzler scored the equalizer in the 87th minute and senior Lindsey Mayo’s header off senior Erika Miller’s free kick during the 92nd minute sealed the match for the 17th-ranked Razorbacks (18-5-0).

With the win, head coach Colby Hale is 4-1-1 in the NCAA Tournament since 2013 with three of four victories earned on the road or at a neutral site.

This season, Arkansas is 3-1 in neutral site matches with victories against VCU at Harrisonburg, Virginia, and against Vanderbilt and Auburn at Orange Beach, Alabama.

No. 17 Arkansas will face No. 12 Clemson (14-4-3) for the first time in program history on Friday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. CT at North Carolina’s Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill.

The Tigers defeated Northeastern 1-0 to advance to the next round of the tournament Sunday.

The third round of the NCAA Tournament will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 12 p.m. CT. If Arkansas advances past Clemson, it will face the winner between Kansas and North Carolina.

Arkansas is one of 20 Division I women’s soccer programs to win an NCAA Tournament match three of the last four years and just one of four Southeastern Conference schools.

Of the teams that advanced in the NCAA Tournament, the Razorbacks are among five teams with 18 wins or more and one of two SEC teams. Only Connecticut at 19-2-1, South Carolina at 19-1-1 and West Virginia at 20-1-1 have more wins.
