Casey Jo Magee qualifies for NCAA Championship University of Arkansas freshman Casey Jo Magee became the second individual Gym’Back in the five-year program history to qualify for the NCAA Championship. She joins Dana McQuillin who qualified as a junior in 2005. The 13th-ranked Gym’Backs finished third at the meet trailing No. 12 Michigan by 0.175 (196.050-195.875) and did not qualify as a team.
How did she qualify? Casey Jo Magee finished seventh overall as an all-arounder at the NCAA North East Regional meet. A Michigan gymnast won the all-around title, followed by a Florida all-arounder and a second Michigan athlete. Pittsburgh’s Andrea Arlotta was fourth followed by a pair of Gators and then Magee. The NCAA Championship takes the top two all-arounders not on a qualifying team – Arlotta and Magee.
Familiar Faces Casey Jo Magee will rotation with No. 2 Georgia for the entirety of the meet. Magee and the Bulldogs begin on beam, get a bye, go to floor, then vault before another bye and finish on bars. Magee and the Bulldogs are in Session I on April 26.
Not a bad place to start Casey Jo Magee and Georgia begin the NCAA Championship on the beam – one of Magee’s best events. Magee enters the meet ranked 22nd in the country on beam with an RQS of 9.870 and a season and career-best 9.950. That mark was set at No. 23 Arizona State March 16th and ties the Arkansas school record.
More about the beam Although Casey Jo Magee ranks 22nd in the country on beam, she ranks 12th in the SEC on the apparatus. She is also tied for second in the SEC for one of the highest scores in the conference (9.950) this year.
A pretty good all-arounder Casey Jo Magee has competed for the all-around title in 10 of the Gym’Backs’ 14 meets this year. She won the all-around title at the Arkansas Quad 1 on March 9 scoring a season and career-best 39.275.
Magee is a winner Casey Jo Magee has won six individual titles this year. As the last note pointed out, Magee is extra-special on the balanace beam and that has been reflected in the number of event wins – five. She also has one all-around title. Magee’s six individual titles is tied for fifth all-time on the Arkansas individual winner’s list Here’s a look at her wins.
