OWINGS MILLS, MD – The 15th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team battled themselves into 12th place after first and second round action at the NCAA Preview in Owings Mills, Md., Sunday. Arkansas battled tough conditions, summer time rust and the toughest field outside the NCAA Championship jumping into 12th place with 616 in the 15-team field. “I’ll be honest, I was a little disappointed with our play today,” said Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. “It hurt us a bit to not have the practice round but we didn’t finish strong. We gave away some shots coming in. We had a lot of bogies and three-putts.” Arkansas’ practice round was washed out by Tropical Storm Hanna Saturday. Sixth-ranked Georgia grabbed the early lead with a three-over 579 (293-286). Number 14 Virginia was second with a plus-seven 583 (289-294) followed by No. 4 Arizona State (295-291=586), No. 9 Auburn (303-286=589) and No. 1 Southern California (298-297=595) rounding out the top five team scores. Senior Lucy Nunn paced Arkansas through its opening rounds. The Lawton, Okla., native is tied for 19th overall with a 148 after back-to-back rounds of two-over 74s. “Lucy hit 16 greens in the second 18,” said Estes-Taylor. “She played well today.” Junior Kristin Ingram checks in tied for 42nd with a 154 (76-78) followed by a three-way Arkansas tie for 55th. Junior Alex Schulte (80-78), sophomore Kelli Shean (80-78) and freshman Katy Nugent (82-76) are all tied with 158. Final round action is scheduled for a 9 a.m. central start Monday.
