Ben Shearer wins Cowboy Preview 5k, Razorbacks top team

STILLWATER – Producing a 1-2 finish by Ben Shearer and Reuben Reina over a 5,000m distance in the Cowboy Preview hosted by Oklahoma State, Arkansas delivered a team victory over Tulsa, 26-34, to open the 2023 cross country season.

Shearer covered the course in 14:55.1 with Reina runner-up in 15:03.1. Tulsa had runners finish third and fourth while Myles Richter placed fifth in 15:14.3 as the third Razorback finisher.

Arkansas produced its 26 points off a 1-2-5-8-10 finish while Tulsa’s 34 points were generated from a 3-4-7-9-11 tally. Oklahoma State placed third in team scoring with 72 points while Oklahoma was fourth at 105.

Elias Schreml, who won his race a year ago, was fourth among the Razorbacks in placing eighth overall with a time of 15:18.9. Tommy Romanow completed Arkansas’ team score, placing 10th in 15:25.5.

Josh Shearer (15:46.0) and Jack Williams (16:00.2) finished 18th and 25th among a field of 42 runners.

The next competition for Arkansas will be the Chile Pepper Festival on Friday, Sept. 29 held at Agri Park.
