Carolina Gomez Gets Top-Ranked Win, Goes 1-1 on the Day
Carolina Gomez of the Arkansas women’s tennis team continued competition on Friday at the ITA All-American Championships and had a historic start to the day.
In the main draw in the consolation round of 32, Gomez faced No. 1-ranked DJ Bennett of Auburn and won the match, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The win against a No. 1 ranked opponent is the first for a Razorback since Aurelija Miseviciute took down Megan Falcon (LSU) at the 2007 ITA National Indoor Championships, and only Gomez and Miseviciute have ever achieved the feat.
Later in the day, Gomez took the court for the consolation qualifying round of 16 against Auburn’s Ashton Bowers and fell 2-6, 4-6.
