Carolina Gomez Named to All-SEC Second Team

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – Junior Carolina Gomez was named to the All-SEC Second Team as announced by the league Wednesday. Gomez is the first Razorback to earn All-SEC honors in three consecutive seasons since Anouk Tigu in 2009-11.

During her fall campaign, Gomez defeated two top-55 opponents, including a dominant win over then-No. 53 Elizabeth Coleman (Duke), 6-1, 6-1.

The Madrid, Spain native posted seven singles wins at the No. 1 position for Arkansas, including four against ranked opponents this season. Gomez was one point away from collecting the highest ranked win of her career after her match against then-No. 4 DJ Bennett (Auburn) went unfinished at 6-1, 4-6, 5-2.  Gomez ended the season on a two-match winning streak and is ranked No. 62 in the latest ITA singles rankings.

In doubles, Gomez and partner Olga Bienzobas climbed all the way to No. 39 in the doubles rankings, compiling a 14-9 overall record, with five ranked wins on courts one and two for Arkansas, including a 7-4 conference record. Gomez led the team in overall doubles wins with 16 and dual doubles wins with 12.

First-team and second-team All-SEC honorees, All-Freshman team, along with Player, Coach and Freshman of the Year were chosen by the league’s 16 coaches.
