Chris Bucknam earns 11th SEC Indoor Coach of the Year honor

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – A third consecutive SEC Indoor track and field team title by the Razorbacks earned Arkansas men’s head coach Chris Bucknam his 11th SEC Indoor Coach of the Year accolade, as announced by the conference office via voting by the league’s coaches.

This marks the 27th SEC Coach of the Year honor in his 14-year career with the Razorbacks. In addition to 11 honors for SEC Indoor, Bucknam has received the accolade six times in the outdoor season and 10 times in cross country.

Bucknam has earned the SEC Coach of the Year six consecutive times since the 2020 indoor season with three indoor titles, two in cross country and one in the outdoor season since the 2020 SEC Outdoor meet was not held.

In one of the tightest team finishes in the history of the SEC Indoor Championships, Arkansas scored 86 points for the 2022 team title over Florida (77) and Alabama (71). It was the lowest winning score since 1977 and just the third time since 1978 that the winning team didn’t score over 100 points, joining Arkansas’ winning total of 98 in 2017 and Alabama’s tally of 91 points in 2018.

Distance events provided the Razorbacks with 51 points with 21 coming from the 5,000m and 20 more in the 3,000m along with eight points as runner-up in the distance medley relay and a pair of points from the mile.

This weekend the No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, held Friday and Saturday in the Birmingham CrossPlex.
