Crawford Takes Individual Lead At Bayou City
HUMBLE, Texas – Redshirt junior Kolton Crawford carded a four-under 68 in Saturday’s second round of the Bayou City Collegiate Championships held at the Golf Club of Houston and will enter Sunday’s final round with a one-stroke lead. Crawford’s 68 highlighted a second straight even-par 288 by Arkansas, as it sits in sole possession of third place.
It marks the second straight weekend that Crawford has entered Sunday as the 36-hole leader, as he holds a one-stroke lead at five-under par. A day after carding a one-under 71, Crawford played his first 13 holes of the second round bogey-free at four-under. More than half of those holes were played on Friday after round one due to the threat of bad weather, but the break didn’t faze the Texas native as he finished with his third straight under-par round.
Arkansas sits just one stroke behind second place Sam Houston State and 11 back of No. 9 South Carolina who took over the lead with a 13-under 275 in the second round. Junior Taylor Moore continued his strong play on Saturday, shooting an even-par 72 following his one-under 71 on Friday. The reigning SEC Golfer of the Week, Moore rebounded from playing his first seven holes three-over by playing his last 11 three-under and bogey-free. Moore is part of a large group in a tie for eighth place and has been even-par or lower all five rounds in the spring.
The final two counting scores on Saturday came from junior Nicolas Echavarria (73) and redshirt sophomore Zach Coats (75). Coats joins Crawford and Moore with a counting score in each round, sitting in a tie for 28th place (72-75). Freshman Alvaro Ortiz had a counting score on Friday and is in a tie for 48th position (74-76).
