Cross Named SEC Player Of The Week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After clinching the match win against SMU over the weekend, Arkansas sophomore Morgan Cross earns her first SEC Player of the Week honor, announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Cross becomes the first Razorback to win the award since 2017, when Shannon Hudson won the award twice.
The Razorbacks are 7-3 on the season after defeating No. 36 SMU on Sunday in their first win over a ranked opponent this dual season.
In singles, Cross battled in straight-set tiebreakers to defeat SMU’s Claudia Bartolome 7-5, 7-5 to clinch the match win for the Razorbacks. Cross earned her second straight win in singles and her third at the No. 5 position. Cross and doubles partner Tatum Rice helped to secure the doubles point in a 6-3 win over Mustangs Bartolome/Nylander to move to 5-1 this dual season and move to 15-4 overall.
Cross and the Razorbacks continue the dual season on Saturday, March 5 when they open SEC play against Missouri at home at 1 p.m. CT.
