Deas Gets Double-Double in Loss to No. 4 Texas
FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas women’s basketball (11-17, 0-13 SEC) dropped its fourteenth straight game of the season, 93-62, to No. 4 Texas (24-3, 10-3 SEC) on Thursday night inside Bud Walton Arena.
First Quarter – 9-18
- Texas won the tip but failed to score on its first possession.
- Arkansas turned the ball over on its first possession via a bad pass from Taleyah Jones.
- Bonnie Deas scored Arkansas’ first point, a free throw at the 5:41 mark.
- The Longhorns led 10-3 at the media timeout.
- The Hogs started 0-6 from the field before Jones hit a step-back jumper at the 35-second mark.
- All of Arkansas’ first seven points were from free throws.
- Two Razorbacks had two fouls in the first quarter: Emily Robinson and Wyvette Mayberry.
- The Hogs had a chance to cut it to 18-11 in the final seconds but Maryn Archer missed two free throws
Second Quarter – 27-47
- Arkansas started the second with a three-pointer, its first of the game, from Jones to make it 18-12 Texas.
- The Hogs had back-to-back layups from Deas and Jones but the Longhorns responded with a three from Madison Booker to make it 25-16 Texas.
- Texas hit back-to-back threes to get up 12 points, its largest lead of the game to this point.
- The Longhorns went on a 12-0 run to get up 22 points at the end of the quarter.
- Harmonie Ware ended the drought with a free throw with 48 seconds left in the half.
- Arkansas closed the half with a three from Maria Anais Rodriguez, her fourth in the last four games, to cut Texas’ lead to 20.
- The Longhorns finished the quarter six of their last six from the field and outscored the Hogs 29-18 in the quarter.
Third Quarter – 45-72
- Texas opened the half with its seventh make.
- Arkansas responded with seven straight points from Jones with two free throws, a three and a jumper from the top of the key.
- Deas picked up her second double-double of SEC play with her 10th rebound at the 5:48 mark.
- Texas closed the quarter on a 6-0 run. Arkansas didn’t score for the final 1:44.
- The Longhorns outscored the Hogs 25-18.
First Quarter – 62-93
- Ware made a pair of free throws to start the quarter for Arkansas.
- Texas went on a two-plus-minute scoring drought midway through the fourth.
Game Notes
- Deas picked up her seventh double-double of the season and second of SEC play with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
- Jones has collected 22 10-plus point games this season. She’s led Arkansas in scoring 17 times this season.
- Texas had five players finish in double figures: Madison Booker (21), Aaliyah Crump (16), Kyla Oldacre (13 points and 10 rebounds), Ashton Judd (13) and Jordan Lee (11).
- Arkansas attempted an SEC play high 32 free throws and made an SEC play high 24 free throws.
