Dixon repeats as all-region selection
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Miranda Dixon has been named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-South Region first team, it was announced Thursday by the NFCA. Dixon leads Arkansas with 11 home runs and 40 RBI at the plate, and in the circle, she has a 17-12 record. This is the second selection to the all-region team for the Edmond, Okla., native.
Dixon became Arkansas’ all-time home runs leader earlier this season with a solo shot against Drake (Feb. 13). The junior utility player sits atop that list with 31 career home runs. Dixon has also moved into third place on the program’s career RBI list. In an April 8 matchup with Oklahoma, Dixon helped Arkansas to victory with a two-home run, six-RBI performance. Dixon is the first player in Razorback softball history with back-to-back seasons of at least 10 home runs and 40 RBI. She set the Arkansas single-season RBI record with 47 runs driven in last season.
As the club’s No. 1 pitcher, Dixon has recorded a career-best 17 wins and 136 strikeouts. After a 4-0 slate against conference foes Mississippi State and Kentucky, Dixon was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week for the second time of her career. She has enjoyed an eight-game winning streak this season to go along with 16 complete games, three shutouts and SEC-leading four saves.
Dixon and the Razorbacks were selected to participate in the 2009 NCAA Tournament and begin play Friday against Tulsa in game one of the Norman (Okla.) Regional. The contest is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start from Marita Hynes Field at the OU Softball Complex. For more information and details, visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
