Doubles in Action on Day Two of ITF Tourney
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Day two of the ITF World Tour 15K tournament in Fayetteville featured the second round of singles in the qualifying bracket as well as the first round of doubles play.
Two doubles teams Tuesday featured either current or former Razorbacks. Former ITA All-American at Arkansas Mike Redlicki returned to Fayetteville to team up with current Hog, sophomore Avery Zavala.
Redlicki and Zavala took down the No. 2 seeds in doubles play, Liam Draxl and Sho Shimabukuro, 6-3, 6-1.
Former Razorback Oscar Mesquida also made his reappearance at the Billingsley Tennis Center, and teaming up with former Minnesota Golden Gopher Matic Spec, Mesquida joined Redlicki and Zavala in the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket. Mesquida and Spec advanced past Keenan Mayo and Jake Van Emburgh after Mayo and Van Emburgh retired after five games.
Redlicki and Zavala will take on Raphael Lambling and Daniel Rodrigues in the quarterfinals.
The main draw of singles play begins Wednesday, with Razorbacks Alex Reco and Nico Rousset starting their singles run. Redlicki and Mesquida are also featured in the singles draw, with Redlicki being the No. 1 seed.
