Duo of Razorbacks Shine at NCAA Championships in Orlando

Anet Koskel and Carolina Gomez competed at the NCAA Championships in Orlando, Fla. this past week. The tournament began on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the UTSA National Campus.

On Tuesday in the round of 64, No. 38 Carolina Gomez Alonso defeated (9-16) Vivian Yang from the University of Virginia, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2. Then on Wednesday in the round of 32, No. 78 Anet Koskel and Carolina Gomez defeated Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova from North Carolina State University, 6-1, 6-7, [10]-[7]. With this win, they became the first duo to advance to the round of 16 since 2017. Gomez also won her singles match on Wednesday against No. 96 Erika Matsuda from the University of Washington, 6-4, 6-0. This win for Gomez put her into the round of 16, and qualified her to be an ITA All-American, this was the first time that an Arkansas player had reached All-American status since 2009 (Miseviciute).

On Thursday Gomez defeated (3) Piper Charney from the University of Michigan, 6-2, 6-2, this advanced her to the quarterfinals of the tournament she is only the third Razorback in history to advance to the quarterfinals. Koskel and Gomez dropped their match during the round of 16, falling to Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum from the University of Oklahoma, 0-6, 3-6. Then Friday, Gomez dropped her elite eight matchup against Jana Hossam Salah from the University of Southern California, 6-3, 5-7, 0-6.

The championship matches are scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 23.
