Echavarria to Represent Colombia in Olympics
FAYETTEVILLE – Former Razorback and #ProHog Nico Echavarria will represent his native Colombia at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. He will be joined on the team by Camilo Villegas.
The men’s golf competition is set for Aug. 1-4 (72 holes) and will be played at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France.
Echavarria, a 2013 Razorback All-American, is one of 60 players to qualify based on the official International Golf Federation world ranking list as of June 17, 2024. The Olympic qualifying criteria is designed to ensure players from around the world are represented, including a large portion of the field ranked outside the top 200.
The top-15 players in the world were eligible, with a limit of four players from any given country. The rest of the field will came straight from the rankings, with a maximum of two eligible players from each country that does not already have two or more players in the top 15. The host country, France, is ensured at least one spot.
For the first time, Colombia will have two male representatives in Golf at the Olympics. Thanks to their performances in championships between June 2022 and June 17 2024, the two golfers earned their spot in the Olympics. During this time, Camilo Villegas’s performances ranked him at 42 whereas Nicolas Echavarria ranked at 55.
