Ellis Named D1 Softball National Player of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas senior first baseman Bri Ellis has been named D1 Softball National Player of the Week after a career weekend during the Razorbacks’ five run-rule wins at the LA Tech Classic, the publication announced Tuesday afternoon.
The senior first baseman batted .667 with eight hits, three doubles, four home runs, 15 RBI, seven runs scored and five walks while posting a 1.917 slugging percentage and a .722 on-base percentage during the 5-0 showing. She recorded four multi-hit and four multi-RBI games. Seven of Ellis’ eight hits went for extra bases and she did not strikeout once during her 18 plate appearances in the five contests.
In a 12-4 (6 inn.) win over Southern Miss, the right-handed slugger drove in a career-high five runs courtesy of a three-run home run and a two-run home run. The two-homer performance marked her fourth career multi-home run game and was her first as a Razorback. Ellis also hit a two-run home run while driving in three runs in a win over Louisiana Tech and followed up her five RBI performance against Southern Miss on Saturday with a grand slam and a double against the Golden Eagles on Sunday morning. She then wrapped up her weekend by driving in two runs courtesy of a sacrifice fly and a walk in a 10-0 drubbing of ULM.
Ellis, the current NCAA active career leader in home runs with 55, is batting .583 this year with 14 hits, three doubles, seven home runs, 24 RBI, 12 runs scored and nine walks. She owns a 1.583 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage.
Through the first 10 games of the season, the Houston, Texas product has driven in 24 runs in 24 at-bats. Ellis is the only player nationally to have equal or more RBI than at-bats through the first 10 games of the season since at least 2015 (minimum of 20 AB).
Arkansas is off to a program record 10-0 start this season. Seven of the Razorbacks’ 10 wins have come by the way of a run-rule. Arkansas will be back in action on Thursday when they open the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with Rutgers (11:30 a.m.) and Cal State Fullerton (2 p.m.)
