Fayetteville’s Cooper Williams signs with Razorbacks
FAYETTEVILLE – Cooper Williams, a high jumper from Fayetteville High School with a career best of 6 feet, 11.5 inches (2.12), has signed a national letter of intent to join the Arkansas Razorbacks next fall.
With a senior season still to go, Williams has already claimed a pair of Arkansas 6A State high jump titles as well as a pair of Arkansas Indoor HS Championship high jump victories. Recently, Williams won the high jump at Arkansas HS Invitational with a 6-6 (1.98) clearance, after claiming the 2023 title with a 6-7 (2.01) mark.
At the 2023 Arkansas 6A State Championships, Williams won the high jump title (6-5) added a runner-up in the 300m hurdles with a career best 40.59, finished fourth in triple jump (42-11) and placed fifth in the 110m hurdles (15.35). Williams totaled 27 points as Fayetteville finished second in team scoring.
In the 2023 Arkansas Meet of Champions, Williams cleared 6-6 to win the high jump and placed eighth in 110m hurdles (15.50). He finished as runner-up in Arkansas Decathlon, scoring 6,425 points which was four points shy of the winning score. Williams marks included a 6-6.75 (2.00) clearance in high jump along with a career best 15.31 in the 110m hurdles.
During the indoor season in 2023, Williams competed in pentathlon at New Balance Nationals where his total of 3,601 points placed second. Marks within the multi-event included a 6-9 (2.06) high jump and 9.02 in 60m hurdles. In an earlier pentathlon, Williams scored 3,369 to place third at RADD Sunshine Showcase where his efforts included a career best 6-11.5 high jump.
Williams won the high jump at the 2023 Arkansas Indoor Championships with a 6-7 mark and finished seventh in triple jump (41-8). In 2022, Williams claimed the high jump title with 6-6 clearance at Arkansas Indoor Championships.
As a sophomore in 2022, Williams claimed nine consecutive high jump victories during the outdoor season. He set an outdoor best of 6-10 to win the Arkansas 6A State Championship. Williams also won the Arkansas Meet of Champions with 6-7 clearance. He finished fourth in State high jump as a freshman with a 6-3 height.
