
Fifth-Seeded Women’s Tennis Begin SEC Tournament Thursday
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 30 University of Arkansas women’s tennis team kicks off postseason play at the 2022 SEC Tournament in Gainesville, Fla. The Razorbacks will face facing the 13th-seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs on Thursday, April 20 at 8 a.m. CT.
The Razorbacks have won eight SEC matches this dual season, its most conference wins since 2009 to finish the regular season at 15-8 overall and 8-5 against SEC teams. Arkansas split their final weekend, falling 6-1 to SEC Champions, Texas A&M, and sweeping LSU, 7-0.
Leading the Razorbacks is graduate student Tatum Rice, who comes in at No. 68 in the latest ITA singles rankings, boasting a 12-7 record on court one. Rice has won four straight matches, all against nationally-ranked opponents. In doubles, Rice and sophomore Morgan Cross come in at No. 45 with a 12-5 record at the No. 1 position for the Hogs.
The Razorbacks and Bulldogs last met this season in Starkville, where Arkansas won 4-2. The Hogs dropped the doubles point, but rallied back in singles play to claim four wins with Tatum Rice clinching the match on court one.
No. 64 Mississippi State faced Missouri on Wednesday, defeating the Tigers 4-2 to advance to the second round of the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs are led by No. 76 Emmanouela Antonaki who has now won four straight matches, three of which came in straight sets. On court six, Marta Falceto has won eight of her last ten matches, seven coming against SEC opponents. In doubles, the duo pair up on court two and have won eight straight matches together.
The winner of Arkansas-Mississippi State will advance to the third round to face the host and fourth-seeded No. 15 Florida Gators on Friday, April 22 at 8 a.m. CT.
