First Day of the Women's ITA All-American Championships Pre-Qualifying Round Concludes

Members of the Arkansas women’s tennis team started their fall season today at the ITA All-American Championships. They will continue play tomorrow at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.

In the singles division in the round of 256, Anet Koskel started competition for the Hogs facing off against Johanna Strom from Marshall University. Koskel came up short and lost in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2. Koskel will face off tomorrow against Wenfei, Yu from Baylor at 12:00 p.m. CST.

In the afternoon, Katarina Pavlechova took the court against SEC foe Deniz Dilek from the University of Georgia for singles. After losing the first set 6-3, Pavlechova looked to rally, but ended up falling in the second set 7(7)-6(4). Pavlechova return to the court tomorrow against Julia Millan from East Tennessee State at 3:00 p.m.

To cap off the day, Koskel and Carolina Gomez took the court against Olivia Dorner and Maelie Monfil from Penn State in a doubles in the round of 32. During the first set, the Hogs jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and closed it out to win 6-4. Koskel and Gomez would drop a very close set 7-5. Arkansas ended up winning the match 13-11.

The pre-qualifying rounds for the ITA- All American Championships continue tomorrow Sunday, Sept. 21. Qualifying rounds run on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 22-23. The main draw will then begin on Wednesday, Sept. 24 and continue through Sunday, Sept. 28.
