Five additions add depth in various events for Razorbacks

FAYETTEVILLE – Five additions to the Razorbacks program through transfers include sprinters, hurdlers, and middle-distance athletes joining Arkansas for the 2023-24 season.

The group of new additions includes hurdler Terry (TJ) Caldwell of Pittsburg State, hurdler Elijah Morris from Baylor, sprint-hurdler William Spencer Jr. of South Carolina, middle-distance runner Riley Wells from Illinois State, and sprinter Tevijon Williams of Incarnate Word.

Caldwell, who attended Byron Nelson HS and is from Roanoke, Texas, has career best times of 7.64 (60m hurdles) and 13.66 (110m hurdles). During the 2022 season, Caldwell earned a bronze medal in the 110m hurdles at the NCAA Division II Championships after a silver medal in the conference meet.

Competing in the 2023 NCAA Division II Championships, he placed fourth in the 110m hurdles with a wind-aided 13.51 after setting his 13.66 PR in the semifinal. Indoors, Caldwell finished seventh in the 60m hurdles at 2022 NCAA Division II meet after a silver medal performance in the MIAA conference meet, posting his 7.64 PR.

Morris, who attended Jefferson HS in Georgia, produced best times of 7.82 (60m hurdles) and 13.51 (110m hurdles). A Big 12 silver medalist in 2022 with his PR in the 110m hurdles, he also placed 11th in the 400m hurdles prelims during the conference meet. Morris finished fifth in 2023 Big 12 Outdoor 110m hurdles.

Indoors, he placed fifth in the 60m hurdles at 2022 Big 12 meet after setting a 7.82 PR at the Texas Tech Shootout. Morris finished seventh at the conference indoor meet in 2020 and 2021.

Spencer is from Henrico, Virginia and attended Highland Springs HS. His best marks in college include 46.70 (400m indoors), 47.24 (400m outdoors), and 49.56 (400m hurdles). Spencer advanced to 2022 NCAA Championships in 400m hurdles, placing 12th in the semifinal (50.27) after posting times of 49.68 and 50.09 in NCAA West meet. He finished 13th in 2021 NCAA Outdoor.

Established 400m hurdles career best to win 2022 Florida Relays. Then Spencer finished second in Penn Relays 400m hurdles while also competing in a pair of relays that placed second in 4 x 200m and third in 4 x 400m.

Wells is from Rockford, Illinois, and attended Rockford Christian HS. He is a five-time Missouri Valley champion with four 800m titles and one in the distance medley relay. Wells earned a total of eight conference medals, adding one silver and two bronze medals.

Career best times for Wells include 1:47.82 (800m outdoor), 1:48.81 (800m indoor), 3:52.62 (1,500m), and 4:10.71 (Mile). His 2023 season included a Drake Relays bronze medal in 800m along with a season best of 1:47.93 at the NCAA West Preliminary meet, where he set his PR the previous year.

Williams, who attended Smithson Valley HS and is from Bulverde, Texas, has collegiate career best times of 6.75 (60), 10.27 (100), and 20.82 (200). He finished seventh in the 100m (10.32w) at the 2023 Southland Outdoor Championships while also running on the bronze medal 4 x 100m relay. Williams finished seventh in the 200m at the Southland Indoor.

During the 2023 outdoor season, Williams produced his career best in the 100m with a victory at the Kingsville Cactus Cup while his PR in the 200m came in the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor.
