George Recognized For Pre-Nationals Performance

Pre-Nationals Results

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas senior All-American Alex George was selected as the Southeastern Conference Co-Runner of the Week for his top-20 finish at the nationally stacked Pre-Nationals meet last weekend in Louisville, Kentucky.

The recipient of the honor on five previous occasions during his storied career as a Razorback (inclusive of freshman honors), George is the first member of head coach Chris Bucknam’s squad to earn recognition from the league office this year. George shares the honor with Vincent Kiprop of Alabama.

Senior Season
Prior to clocking a season best of 23 minutes, 26.50 seconds over the 8K distance at Pre-Nationals, George carried the banner for the Hogs first at the Iona Meet of Champions (9/14) in New York and then in front of his home crowd at the Chile Pepper Festival (9/30). George made his 2017 debut at Iona, placing seventh in the 8K — a feat made even more impressive when paired with the fact that he encountered some confusion on the historic Van Cortlandt Park course. The Gloucester, Great Britain native followed that performance with a decisive title defense two weeks later on his home course at Agri Park, winning the 10K in 29:45.40.

Arkansas will return to action at the 2017 SEC Cross Country Championships Friday Oct. 27 in Athens, Georgia. The Razorbacks will look to win their 25th SEC title with George in search of his second-consecutive individual crown.
