Gillen Named SEC Player of the Week

After leading the Hogs to two gritty five-set victories last week, graduate outside hitter Jill Gillen has been named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week as well as overall conference Player of the Week.

It’s the first honor for Gillen this season and the seventh weekly award of her career.

Gillen recorded double-doubles in No. 9 Arkansas’ victories over Ole Miss and No. 20 Florida. Her 24 kills against the Rebels on Wednesday were a then-season high, until she tallied 26 versus the Gators on Sunday, which is the most by any Razorback this year so far.

Gillen had 27 digs over the two matches, three blocks, and hit a combined .347. She had three of Arkansas’ eight aces against Ole Miss, further extending her record as the program all-time ace leader with 178.

Her efforts have helped lead the Hogs to 24 wins on the season, the most for the program since 2003. Arkansas’ victory over Florida Sunday marked the first time the Razorbacks have ever defeated the Gators twice in one season, and was just the fifth victory ever over Florida.

Gillen is currently second in the SEC in kills/set with 4.22, tied for first in aces/set with 0.44.

Jill and the Hogs close out the team’s home slate with a top 10 match-up on Wednesday as No. 9 Arkansas takes on No. 10 Kentucky at 7 p.m. at Barnhill Arena.
