Gomez Alonso, Keller Selected for NCAA Singles Championships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Following Arkansas’ selection to the 2023 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship, two Razorbacks were selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships. Senior Kelly Keller and Freshman Carolina Gomez Alonso each earned an at-large selection for their chance at an individual championship.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 22-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 17-20.
The Laguna Beach, Calif. native, Keller is currently ranked No. 57 in the latest ITA Singles Rankings. Keller competes at the No. 1 spot for the Razorbacks, posting a 9-12 record through the dual season. Against ranked opponents, Keller went 3-8 including a win over LSU’s No. 17 ranked player.
No. 41 Carolina Gomez Alonso posted a 12-5 dual singles record (19-6 overall), primarily competing at the No. 2 position for the Razorbacks where she went 8-5. Against ranked opponents, Gomez Alonso went 3-5, including a ranked win over Auburn’s No. 46 Arsenault to help secure the upset over then-No.12 Auburn. Gomez Alonso was named the SEC Freshman of the Year earlier this month, becoming only the second freshman in program history to receive the honor.
This year’s event will be conducted jointly with the NCAA Divisions II and III Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships and hosted by the University of Central Florida and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission.
