Gomez Alonso Named ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – Freshman Carolina Gomez Alonso was selected as the ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year, announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday. Gomez Alonso becomes the third Razorback in program history to earn the ITA Regional Rookie of the Year award.

Every year the ITA recognizes coaches and players for their excellence on the court and in their communities throughout the season. The national award winners will be announced next Monday, June 12th.

Gomez Alonso had an impressive rookie season, ending the year ranked No. 44 in the final ITA rankings, named SEC Freshman of the Year honors, and was selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships.

In the dual season, Gomez Alonso posted a 12-5 dual singles record (19-6 overall), primarily competing at the No. 2 position for the Razorbacks where she went 8-5. Against ranked opponents, Gomez Alonso went 3-5, including a ranked win over Auburn’s No. 46 Arsenault to help secure the upset over then-No.12 Auburn.
