
Gomez Alonso Named SEC Freshman of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After clinching the win over No. 37 Baylor, Arkansas freshman Carolina Gomez Alonso earns her first SEC honor, announced by the league office on Wednesday. The Razorbacks are 5-2 this dual season, making their debut in the latest ITA Rankings this week at No. 42.
Gomez Alonso improved to 4-0 this spring with two singles wins this weekend at Baylor and SMU to remain undefeated in singles play. In the win over Baylor, No. 74 Gomez Alonso held on to defeat Liubov Kostenko in a comeback 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory on court three. Carolina has now clinched the match for the Razorbacks in its last two wins.
In doubles, Gomez Alonso and partner Kelly Keller were the clinching court in both matches this weekend to take the doubles point for the Hogs. The duo has won their last three matches together and are 3-1 this spring. Gomez Alonso and Keller have played a role in the Razorbacks taking the doubles point in their last four matches and in all five wins this season.
Gomez Alonso and the Razorbacks are back on the courts this weekend as they travel to Norman, Okla. on Saturday, February 25 to face the Oklahoma Sooners and the Missouri State Bears.
