Gomez Alonso Selected for NCAA Singles Championships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Sophomore Carolina Gomez Alonso was selected for the NCAA Singles Championships Tuesday evening. Gomez Alonso is the first Razorback to earn a selection in back-to-back seasons since Yuliya Lysa in 2015-16 after earning an at-large selection.
The Madrid, Spain, native posted a 13-7 singles record at the No. 1 position for Arkansas, going 5-5 against ranked opponents this season. Gomez Alonso collected the highest ranked win of her career after a straight-set victory against No. 11 Celia-Belle Mohr (Vanderbilt) while achieving a career-high ITA singles ranking of No. 26 this spring. Gomez Alonso ended the season on a three-match winning streak and is ranked No. 32 in the latest ITA singles rankings.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 20-25 at Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla., after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 17-19. Oklahoma State University serves as host.
