Hitting The Road

Riviera ITA All-American Championships: PQ Singles

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With fall competition in full swing, Arkansas women’s tennis will hit the road again for its second weekend of tournament play.

The Razorbacks will be split again this weekend, with several players going to Columbia, South Carolina for the South Carolina Fall Invitational from Oct. 2-4 and others heading out west to the Riviera ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California from Oct. 3-11.

The field in South Carolina features players from Oklahoma, North Florida, South Carolina, UNC Wilmington and William & Mary. All six teams made the NCAA Tournament last year with four of the six finishing in the top 50 of the 2015 ITA Final Rankings.

Two doubles flights will be played on Friday, while four singles flights get underway Saturday and run through Sunday. Start times are set for 8 a.m. CT each day.

Meanwhile, Yuliya Lysa and Shannon Hudson will represent the Razorbacks at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships.

The nine-day event begins Saturday, Oct. 3 with pre-qualifying play. The qualifying rounds run from Sept. Oct. 6-7, concluding with the tournament’s main draw, Oct. 8-11.

The duo will team up once again in the main doubles draw. The 11th-ranked pair turned in an impressive performance last week at the UVa Invite, placing third in the orange flight doubles bracket. The Razorback tandem picked up two wins, including downing Utah’s 52nd-ranked team of Brianna Turley and Margo Pletcher in the process.

In singles action, Lysa will represent Arkansas in the qualifying bracket, and Hudson will compete in the prequalifying bracket.

Hudson is first to take court as she faces Duke’s Jessica Ho in the first round on Saturday.

“It’s exciting for Yuliya and Shannon to be selected for this prestigious event,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “They are both poised for great seasons individually, and that is a great sign for the program in the team sense.”
