Hogs' Comeback Bid Comes up Just Short Against Oklahoma State
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team (7-2) had a comeback bid come up short against Oklahoma State (6-2) after a 4-3 loss on Sunday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Cowboys gained the early advantage with a win on court two as Pham/Valentine defeated No. 31 Connor Smillie and Jakub Vrba. The visitors clinched the doubles point after securing a 6-3 victory on court three, as Basile/Bracks took down Boland and Kopilevich.
Oklahoma State struck first in singles play with Ian Bracks taking down Dmitry Kopilevich 6-1, 6-3 on court five. The Razorbacks responded as Ben Weintraub cruised to a straight-set victory against Williams at the No. 3 position, maintaining his perfect 5-0 record this spring. The Cowboys answered with a win on court four as Kobelt bested Elicha Navas, 6-4, 6-2.
The Hogs rattled off two straight singles points on courts one and two, respectively, as No. 19 Jakub Vrba and Lukas Palovic both swept their opponents.
The match came down to court six, as Eric Padgham and Gokpinar had a three-set thriller end in a win for the visitors, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-1.
Arkansas is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 15, facing Nebraska at 12 p.m. and Creighton at 5:30 p.m. in a doubleheader in Lincoln, Neb.
