Hogs Cruise Past San Diego State, 4-0
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team (7-1) earned its second straight win after a 4-0 victory over San Diego State (1-6) Friday night at Billingsley Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Razorbacks took the early advantage with a win on court three, as Lukas Palovic and Jakub Vrba swept Fitzmauric/Willman, 6-0. Eric Padgham and Ben Weintraub clinched the point for the Hogs at the top spot after a 6-3 win over Kleege/Maijorov.
Arkansas started out strong in singles play, taking the first set on three courts. Padgham cruised to his third victory of the season, besting William Kleege 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 position. Brendan Boland quickly followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Maijorov on court five, while No. 18 Vrba clinched the sweep for the Razorbacks after a hard fought 7-6 (5), 7-6 (5) victory over Daniel Hazli on court one. With the win, Vrba continued his undefeated start to the season in singles play.
The remaining three matches all went to three sets as the Aztecs grabbed the first set on each court before dropping the second set to the Hogs. Dmitry Kopilevich and Weintraub were both leading in the third set.
The Hogs return to Billingsley Tennis Center for a match against the Cowboys of Oklahoma State on Sunday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m.
