Hogs Defeat No. 51 Rice, Secure Fourth Consecutive Ranked Win
HOUSTON – The No. 41 Arkansas men’s tennis team (18-9) swept its final road trip of the regular season after taking down No. 51 Rice (14-7) on Monday afternoon at Boniuk Tennis Center.
With the win, the Razorbacks secured their 18th victory of the season, which is the most in a single season since 2016 and only the program’s third time achieving the 18+ win mark since 1990. For the road trip, the Hogs earned their first top-10 road victory since 2016 and first top-10 SEC road win since 2002 over No. 8 Texas A&M along with claiming their fourth consecutive victory against a ranked opponent after today’s win.
In a delayed start, the match began with singles play with doubles if necessary. Arkansas jumped out to an early lead after another strong performance from Stefanos Savva as he cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Sendogan at the No. 4 position. The Owls grabbed their only point of the match on court three following a straight-set win from de la Bassetiere against Melvin Manuel.
The Razorbacks responded with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 victory from Benedikt Emesz at the No. 5 position, while Karlo Kajin picked up a 7-6 (4), 6-0 win to take a 3-1 lead in the match. The Hogs clinched the final point of the match on court two as Gerard Planelles Ripoll bested Grear, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3).
Arkansas returns to Billingsley Tennis Center on Wednesday, April 10, to host UTRGV at 5:30 p.m.
