Hogs Dominate No. 13 Vols at Home
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas soccer (5-2) jumped out to an early lead four minutes in and never looked back, defeating No. 13 Tennessee (7-1), 3-1, in front of 1,883 fans Friday night at Razorback Field.
How it Happened
Things got going in the fourth minute after a run from forward Parker Goins. Her advance down the field led to a quick pass to junior Jessica De Filippo, who scored from the top of the six-yard box, netting it in the lower-left corner.
The Razorbacks doubled their lead in the 24th minute, this time from Goins. She took a lob shot from outside the box after Kayla McKeon laid it back. Goins’ shot pulled the Tennessee goalkeeper off the line, allowing the ball to sneak through at the near post.
Arkansas opened the second half with a quick strike from Anna Podojil in the 46th minute. Podojil took a right-footed shot in the near side of the box, whizzing through the hands of the Volunteer keeper and into the lower right part of the net for her fifth goal of the season.
Tennessee got on the board in the 59th minute after a goal from defender Claire Rain, whose shot from the top of the six came across the box by Vol forward Jaida Thomas.
The Hogs outshot the Volunteers 16-14, with Goins and freshman Sophia Aragon leading the team with three apiece in the win.
Hear It From Coach Hale
“That [win] is a testament to our preparation. We do tough things to get tough results. We challenged our leadership and they stepped up today. We have a lot to work on and we certainly haven’t arrived, but for today we will celebrate a deserved result.”
