Hogs Fall in Series Finale at No. 1/2 Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 9 Arkansas Razorbacks fell to No. 1/2 Texas A&M in a series finale pitcher’s duel 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Davis Diamond.
The Razorbacks still left A&M with their highest-ranked series win in program history, the first over a No. 1 ranked opponent in the NFCA Poll.
The Aggies’ Emiley Kennedy was the difference maker in the loss for the Razorbacks as she threw a complete-game shutout and allowed four hits and four walks while striking out five.
Bri Ellis extended her reached-base streak to 22 games with a first-inning single. Ellis also reached base after being hit by a pitch. Reagan Johnson, Raigan Kramer and Courtney Day all recorded a single and a walk for Arkansas. Cam Harrison also reached base after drawing a pinch-hit walk in the seventh inning.
Reis Beuerlein (3-1) took the loss for the Razorbacks despite allowing just one run on three hits and three walks in 3.2 innings pitched. Robyn Herron would pitch the final 2.1 innings of the game, allowing one run courtesy of a solo homer to Mac Barbara in the bottom of the fifth inning. Herron finished her day with a strikeout and two hits allowed.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Reis Beuerlein made her eighth start in the circle for Arkansas, while Texas A&M went back to Friday night starter Emiley Kennedy.
Reagan Johnson led off the game with a walk. Bri Ellis then singled to left-center field with one out and advanced to second on a throw to third on the play as Johnson reached third base. Kennedy would escape unscathed, however, with a strikeout and a popout to end the frame.
Reis Beuerlein spun a scoreless bottom of the first inning, allowing just a single to Mya Perez in the process.
Courtney Day drew a lead-off walk to become the only baserunner for the Hogs in the second inning. In the bottom half, the Aggies’ KK Dement reached second on a double. With two outs, Kramer Eschete legged out an infield single that Dement attempted to advance home on but was thrown out at the plate by Bri Ellis.
Raigan Kramer legged out an infield single with one out in the third inning. Ellis also reached after being hit by a pitch.
An infield single and two walks loaded the bases for Texas A&M with two outs in the inning, but Beuerlein was able to escape the bases-loaded jam with a groundout to Davison at second base.
Day singled to center field for the Hogs’ lone hit of the fourth inning. Texas A&M took a 1-0 lead with a two-out RBI single to left-center field from Frankie Vrazel. Herron relieved Burnham with two outs in the inning.
In the top of the fifth inning, Johnson and Kramer reached base courtesy of a bunt single and walk but that was all the Hogs would get. Johnson would steal second base before Kramer drew a walk.
Texas A&M extended the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run from Mac Barbara.
Kailey Wyckoff was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth inning. The Aggies would get out of it without further damage with a 6-4-3 groundball double play and a strikeout.
Herron faced the minimum in the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighted by a 6-4-3 double play from Atalyia Rijo and Karlie Davison.
Cam Harrison brought the tying run to the plate by drawing a pinch-hit walk with one out in the seventh inning. Kennedy would complete the complete game shutout, however, by issuing a lineout and a strikeout to end the game.
