Hogs Fall to No. 14 Ole Miss, 80-57
OXFORD, Miss. – The Razorback women’s basketball team fell to 11-15 (0-11 SEC) on the season following an 80-57 loss at No. 14 Ole Miss (20-5, 7-3 SEC) on Thursday night.
Taleyah Jones led the Hogs with 16 points.
First Quarter – 16-26
- Arkansas controlled the tip but gave up a steal on its first possession. Ole Miss travelled on its first possession.
- Taleyah Jones scored the first points of the game, a driving layup. Latasha Lattimore answered with a three for the Rebels’ first bucket.
- Ole Miss went on a 15-3 run with a pair of threes to open up a 15-6 lead with under six minutes left in the first quarter.
- Jones hit a three to make it 19-11 at the media timeout. The Rebels were 8-11 from the field in the opening segment.
- Bonnie Deas hit a pair of free throws to make it 19-13 with under three minutes to play.
- Ashlynn Chlarson picked up two fouls in the first seven minutes and sat for the remainder of the half.
- Maria Anais Rodriguez checked in to replace Chlarson and hit a three for the second straight game. Ole Miss responded with its fourth three-pointer of the quarter in the final seconds.
- Lattimore led all scorers with seven points and three blocks.
Second Quarter – 27-40
- Ole Miss opened the quarter with five points but went on a two-plus-minute scoring drought. The Rebels ended the drought with back-to-back buckets to open up a 15-point lead.
- Rodriguez picked up her second foul early in the second quarter.
- Maryn Archer checked in and hit a three-pointer make it 35-23 Ole Miss at the media timeout.
- Arkansas cut it to 11 points at the 2:19 mark thanks to a long drought from the field by the Rebels.
- Neither team passed the 15-point mark in the second quarter.
- Rebounds were tied 20-20 after 20 minutes.
- Ole Miss outshot the Hogs 41% (15-37) to 24% (10-29) in the first half.
- Emily Robinson, who was averaging 19.3 points in her last three games, was held scoreless in the half.
Third Quarter – 40-55
- The Rebels started the half with the ball but Deas picked up a steal on their first possession.
- Ole Miss’ Cotie McMahon drove through the lane for the first points of the half to get to 14 points for the game.
- Arkansas came up empty on its first seven possessions.
- McMahon’s 17th point put the Rebels up 20 points with 6:11 left in the quarter.
- Anais Rodriguez scored the Hogs’ first bucket of the half at the 5:06 mark.
- Ole Miss led 47-29 at the media timeout.
- Taleyah Jones was awarded two free throws on a flagrant 1 foul from Lattimore but missed both free throws. The Hogs traveled on the possession.
- Jones entered double-figures with a jumper at the 2:12 mark.
- The Hogs closed the back-to-back layups from Jones and Deas. Jones made a pair of free throws with 2.7 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 15 points.
Fourth Quarter – 57-80
- Jones opened the quarter with a layup to pass 15 points.
- An and-one by Deas cut the Rebels’ lead to 12 points with 9:04 left in the game.
- Ole Miss responded with an 8-0 run.
- Robinson scored her first points of the game, a pair of free throws, at the 5:12 mark. All five of her points came in the fourth quarter.
Game Notes
- Jones has collected 20 10-plus point games. She’s led Arkansas in scoring 13 times this season.
- Deas finished two rebounds short of her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
- The Rebels finished over 40% from the field (41.3%) compared to the Razorbacks’ 33.9%.
- Arkansas finished four rebounds shy of Ole Miss: 45-41.
- The Rebels had four players finish in double-figures: McMahon (21), Lattimore (17 points and 11 rebounds), Denim DeShields (12) and Sira Thienou (11).
